To See That Thing Again
Photography in its existence directly interacts with our ability to see. It enhances it but somehow distorts the philosophy of preservation of the past.
There is a moment I want to hold and savor forever. I want to maintain the ability to recall it again. Like many people in this situation, I snap a picture. This will be a quick and easy reminder. But that image alone wont be the same joyful day I experienced. Even at its best, even when all goes right, even when all the colors and values are exactly as they were; it is not that thing experienced. Even when it is nothing but a reminder that the experience happened, we are in a different place and time and can't possibly react the same way as when first experienced.
