Every year I get excited when the Blue Jackets development camp rolls around. As Jackets fan, I always feel good about how well they played in the prior season. But, after it's over I also feel like the season was a little shorter that it should've been.
Then the development camp rolls around midsummer and I get really excited about the team's future. For those of you unfamiliar, the development camp is an event for the prospects. It's for the young guys that usually have been drafted, but who aren't quite there with their skillset yet. This is a time to see how those guys are doing.
I've been going to this event for a few years now and it's been a lot of fun to see how things progress. It offers another way to interact. Another way to go deeper and nerd out about something. I always bring a camera and some film. The camera offers another level of interaction for me. I don't get paid to do it - I don't know who would hire someone to shoot something like this on film in 2019. But, I love being in that mindset of just trying to make good pictures that tell a story while these young guys are blasting past me. I'm just running behind the glass trying to catch the energy and personality of these guys growing into their capabilities.
This year, I brought my digital camera too. I haven't had a chance to develop my film yet, so above are some of those digital shots in the mean time.
Last month, I went to New York City with some friends. It was the first time I'd ever been to the city.
This was my second time working with Midwest Photo and Canon at the Dayton Air Show. It's such a blast. It's pretty spectacular that this trifecta is able to come together to make for the perfect environment for some stellar picture taking.
Today the Blue Jackets play the first playoff game of the season. For me it will also be the first time seeing them in the playoffs. Read more
